         San Francisco to St Augustine                      3/1/23 to 5/3/23  I completed my bicycle journey that began March 1st in San Francisco. A journey that was planned in 2017 by David and me, but because of life’s circumstances, never moved past the planning stages. After David passed away in Sept 2021, I began to “finish the dreams” we had in our bucket list. One by one, with help from his lifelong friend, Cliff Goodlet, teaching me the many aspects of touring, the Natchez Trace and now the Southern Tier has completed what together David and I were planning. I could never have made it without Cliff being my eyes and ears, routing me from Austin when I went solo and keeping Hendrika and I from being turned around so many times. Copper Mountain

​After picking up Ruby from the Trek store, we were ready to start riding. We left Perry’s house and headed straight to the mountains that began in Apache Junction. We detoured off the route a little because of camping availability. The rain was a constant drizzle, and the temperature drop made it very cold. Thankful that we didn't have to set up camp! I am assuming the higher we climb tomorrow, the temperature will continue dropping. No big news or happenings from today though. We rode hard and fast. Perry hauled our panniers so we could climb easier, took us to dinner, then he went home. What a great guy he is. For only riding 50 miles, I sure am tired. Everything is plugged and charging, so I think I will take a shower and go to bed.  Sorry that all the pictures today are of scenery. Hello, New Mexico!

​Today we crossed into New Mexico. The road seemed to just go on forever, but we had the sunshine and a tailwind, so all was perfect. Hendrika and I ride completely different. Her zone is slow and easy, mine…well, you know how I ride. 😎  It was another short day with 37 miles. We are gearing up for our big climb of 4000 ft to the Continental Divide and the Emory Pass coming very soon. Once to the top, we will have climbed over 8000 ft. Please check out the link in the stats info to learn more. New Mexico has closed the roads due to repairs but letting cyclers thru. This will be great because we won't have to deal with any traffic, just cold temperatures.  Tonight, we are blessed to be at Lordsburg Calvary Church. They even have a shower!
